I have been teaching Gospel Doctrine on and off for a total of twelve years. There are three things that I have found to be helpful when conducting class discussions:
  - Always let the class know what the discussion point(s) will be before they read the scripture passage
  - Be prepared to give a definitive answer, and close the discussion by quoting a Church authority or resource
  - Have the quote displayed for the whole class to follow along while it is being read
I have found that the best way to accomplish these discussion objectives is to use a presentation.

My hope is that you can use some of the information I have gathered for my lessons to augment your lesson while you work from the Church provided material and follow the Spirit during your preparation.
